Some "Christians" are just wacky
Christians and their Sometimes wacky influence on the world
Jerry Falwell accused president Clinton of complicity in murdering his enemies. Pat Robertson. Said "Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians". Jerry Falwell said, "Modern U.S. Supreme Courts have raped the Constitution and raped the Christian faith and raped the churches".(1 ).
Christians Jay Grimstead Tim LaHaye, Duane Gish, D. James Kennedy, Reverend Donald Wildmon form a coalition the outlines biblically correct positions on issues like taxes, God wants a Flat tax, and God generally dislikes public schools. (2 ).
In 2006 evangelist Dr. K. A. Paul asserted that the Republican Party has delayed the second coming of Christ. This was caused by their abuse of power and being mired in scandal according to Mr. Paul. He is also on the crusade trail to prevent the wrath of God being unleashed on America. He helped Bush win in 2000, and has prayed with Bush and has also counseled more than 60 heads of state (3 ). Jesus is a Democrat, or is he crying or laughing too hard?
Evangelist Oral Roberts Claimed to raise the dead, one source says the number is more than 5,000. Roberts said "I won't tell you how many of the dead have been raised under my ministry,". His Jesus like talent is on call because he also said "I had to stop and go back in the crowd and raise the dead person so I could go on with my service."(4 ).
Still Oral was a world player having dinner in the Whitehouse is nothing to sneeze at. But this didn't stop him from wacky outburst. Like the claim that that God was going to knock him off if he didn't get five million for his ministry (5 ). The money was raise and Oral was saved. It's never been explained why God took such a thuggish approach to Oral.
Remember Y2K? The Rev. Jerry Falwell hinted that it would be "God's instrument to shake this nation, to humble this nation.", and it might lead to "the rapture of the church.". Falwell adised people to stocking up on food and guns. (6 ) .
In an interesting interpretation of the bible, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said God said he is unpleased with us, because of acceptance of abortion, gay marriage and secularism and we are going to pay. On January the fourth 2010 on "The 700 Club." Robertson said God said "We are engaged in a slow time of financial ruin," and "This country will be ultimately bankrupt. It's just a question of how soon. We're beginning that. That's one thing that I can say for certain that is happening. It's a dangerous thing. It's going to hurt America very badly.". His past prophecies include Russia would invade Israel in 1982, Prophesied a worldwide economic collapse in 1985, Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.V.) would be elected president in 1996. He also prophesied a terrorist attack with possibly a nuclear weapon in 2007, but in 2008 he said "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed, and God in his mercy spared us," (7 ) Often his "prophesies" are well on the way of happening, like the ones on higher gas prices and market collaspes.
A quote that makes me wonder is "There's a cloud of God's wrath over America.". in the Christian bible the only country God has ever seemed to care about is Israel, his promised land. With such a major rewrite of the bible would he really intrust the rewrite to Pat and company? (8 ).
Randall Terry said "I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good"(9 ). How has this hate theology worked for Terry? He divorced his wife. His four kids say they still love their father but their relationship is strained. His adopted son Jamiel came out of the closet. He barred one of his adopted daughters from his house after she got pregnant out of wedlock for the second time. His other adopted daughter also became pregnant as a teen and later converted to Islam. Their only biological child in is in college (10 ).
