For fairness and justice in judging an entire culture we must realize that some people take the word of their God out of context. In a greater matter of justice we must ask is a someone killed in the name of honor any less dead than a person killed for other reasons.
In the USA, "On average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in this country every day. In 2000, 1,247 women were killed by an intimate partner. The same year, 440 men were killed by an intimate partner."(13 ).
The following are victims of honor killing, it should be noted not all victims are Muslim or in the Middle East, though it is seen as a Muslim problem this is an over simplification.
A girl in Afghanistan was raped by her brother this resulted in pregnancy to save her reputation they set her on Fire, she died three days later(14 ).
April 21, 2005, Spingul in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province family members and villagers executed 25-year-old Bibi Amin when she was found in the company of a man she wasn't married to. She was buried up to her neck and stoned (15 ).
In Post Saddam Iraq (Iraqi Kurdistan)honor killing or related suicides rose from 36 in 2005 to 133 in 2006 and murders rose from four to seventeen according to Kurdistan's human rights ministry (16 ).
In Iraqi Kurdistan a member of the Kurdistan regional parliament spoke on the problem of honor killing she and others are trying to combat. She said "Violence against women has increased over the recent period and this is a concern for the Kurdish government. Recent statistics showed that in one month, 166 complaints of violence against women had been made and that over 100 women had been killed," and she explained "There are two kinds of killings: there are honor killings on one hand, and there are suicides and cases of being burnt alive on the other. Until now we have not been able to determine whether these women set themselves on fire or are being set alight." (17 ).
