Morals, losing the "culture war"?

Research has shown religion plays an important part of American adolescents lives. There was a drop in attending religious serves the late 1970's but it stabilized 1991. Also there was no impact on other taking part in other religious activities(10 ).

Indeed research by Child Trends shows that since 1972 adolescent religiosity has risen and fallen but remained fairly stable.

Just being exposed to media that has sexual content will not make teens deny or ignore values given by families, school, religious teachings, and other respected adults (11 ).

A study released in 2009 showed older people tended to say religion played an important role in their life. In fact the older they got the more important it got. They survey said a third respondents also said the older they got the more important religion got. Odd, it seems if there was a sole direct negative effect, it would tend to build up over time. Maybe things that are viewed as religious or morality naturally shift as a person ages, regardless of what media they consume (12 ).

There's always the concern over pornographic material and its impact on adolescence. It should be noted that children by the age of four are already developing ideas of what is right and wrong(13 ). Other research also confirms early start moral deployment(14 ). Research has said Significant others in the teenagers' lives may help improve in moral-ethical, family and social area with special concerted efforts."(15 ).
