A 2003 report Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission said even though hate crimes were at a low they still had problems. There is racial strife between Blacks and Latino's. Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission assistant executive director Terri Villa-Dowell said, "Everything was relatively calm until the last month when we had about five high school campuses erupt in campus wide conflicts," and also said "It's very serious at Valencia. There, African-American students are being targeted for harassment and beatings, largely by white students." (6 ).
The most tragic thing is race and things said about racial difference appear to be a myth.
Elected official are aware of this myth, former president Clinton said "in genetic terms all human beings, regardless of race, are more than 99.9 percent the same. . . . The most important fact of life on this earth is our common human ancestry." , Former Republican Vice presidential candidate Jack Kemp said "the human genome project shows there is no genetic way to tell races apart. For scientific purposes, race doesn't exist," (7 ).
An interesting bit of research call the "Eve studies" found all women came from one common ancestor(8).
Research that began in 1992 also found that despite tiny differences humankind was more alike than different (9 ).
Other research backs the claim that the genetic Difference between two people of the same "race" is greater than the difference of races (10 ).
Every person on the earth shares 99.99 percent of the same genetic code (11 ).
Alan R Templeton a evolutionary and population biologist at Washington University in St. Louis Mo. found as far as DNA is concerned "race" did not exist. He said "Race is a real cultural, political, and economic concept in society, but it is not a biological concept, and that unfortunately is what many people wrongfully consider to be the essence of race in humans genetic differences."(12).
Craig Venter, head of Celera Genomics Corp. a private company that joined with a public group to map the human genome said "You cannot look at a person's genes and say with any accuracy whether they are from one racial group or another.". He concluded that the genetic difference between two people of the same race is greater than people of a different race (13). He also said "Race has no genetic or scientific basis,"(14).
