Christian Identity/British Israelism
The writing of John Wilson (?-1871) is seen as stepping stone of the British- Israel movement into more than the idea of British-Israelism (6). Hebrew scholar, religious teacher and "father of the rediscovery of Israel," John Wilson began lecturing publicly in 1836 on the subject of British Israelism and wrote "Our Israelitish Origin" in 1840. Wilson claimed to have discovered the lost Israelite tribe in certain tribes of the Scythian that had emerged nearly the same time and the same place that Wilson believed the Israelites had been taken captive by the Assyrians and thus "lost. These people eventually move northwest and settled in Britain in the first few centuries of the Common Era(CE)(7 ).
It was believed by followers of British Israelism during the Victorian era that the true Jews had been carried off by the Assyrians in 722 B.C.E(8).
Edward Hine ( 1825-91) fused the England and North America Birtish Israel movement(9 ). Hine wrote to his friends in England on a visit to America "have now held eight drawing-room meetings and delivered five lectures. At one I converted Bishop Littlejohn and Dr. Drone, at another I converted Gen. Hancock who put up for president, and only lost by a few votes; he is much thought of. At another I converted Mr. Grace, Mayor of New York;...everywhere I have the ear and the respect of the people. The Rev. Mr. Ingersoll writes me saying the Col. Bob Ingersoll [the militant agnostic] is looking into the Identity [one of Hine's pamphlets], and is much struck by it, and he augurs a new life for this man.". Even with this success he left America almost destitute(10).
Other early founders of American British-Israelism are W.H. Poole, A.A.L. Totten and J.H. Allen. Rueben Sawyer was the first British Israelite to become a Ku Klux Klan leader. Soon the belief developed. It was believed that Eve Mated with the serpent this caused two "seed lines" one was of Aryan Stock. The other was from Satan (Cain). The non-Adamites are genetically predisposed to carry out a conspiracy against the Adamic line (11).
