The assassin

The proclaimed assassin was James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray was born on March 10, 1928 in Alton, Ill. He was the oldest child of George and Lucille Ray. The Ray family moved Ewing, in Lewis County, Mo.. When James Earl Ray was 7 he Lived on an all but barren farm that the family bought when Ray's father was out on bond for a check forgery conviction. Ray had few friends and preferred the company of his father. He rarely attended school and was the subject of scorn because he were ragged. By the time he finished third grade suffered from recurring nightmares and other problems, including bed wetting, stuttering and fitful sleep. During his adolescence under the influence of his uncle he took part in barroom fights cavorting with prostitutes rolling drunks, and breaking into houses. His first arrest was at 14 for selling stolen newspapers and was let off with a warning. The rest of his life was a life as an often blundering career criminal (6).

Before the Assassination Ray was incarcerated in Jefferson City Missouri. After numerous failed attempts to escape a prison he escaped on April 23, 1967 by hiding in a Bakery Truck(7).

Ray said a man named "Raoul" ( note there are different spelling for the same name used here I am using the spelling that the sources provided) supported him by paying him Large sums of money after his escape. Raoul was part of the assassination conspiracy(8).

Interestingly, alias's Ray used while on the run after escaping prison, George Sneyd, Paul Bridgeham, Eric Galt, and John Willard) were actual names of people who lived in Toronto fitting the same basic description as Ray. How could Ray, with no Canadian contacts, come up with these striking similarities?

Did "Raoul" give Ray get money ($1,995) to buy his mustang a week before the assassination? This same Mustang that was found locked and abandoned at an Atlanta housing project parking lot a week after the assassination. Why was there dozens of cigarette butt in the cars ashtray when Ray did not smoke (9).

It certainly seems that Ray would have had to have help in his escape after King was killed. He went through police road blocks when he left Memphis and went to Atlanta were he got false identification papers. He then fled to Canada then to Britain then Portugal and back to Britain. He was caught in London's Heathrow Airport on June 8, 1968 (10).
