Ingrid Newkirk of People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA) said about a Michigan State University mink research laboratory in February 1993. ``I'm glad somebody had the guts to go in there and render that building useless,'' and ``It's not a loss. It's a gain.'' (19 ).

The founder of PETA Alex Pacheco said "arson, property destruction, burglary and theft are 'acceptable crimes' when used for the animal cause." (20 ).

In 1997 the US Department of Justice said there had been more than 313 instances of animal rights violence (21 ).

An arson attack in 1999 at an agricultural hall Michigan State University caused 1 million dollars in damage, the reason for the attack was biotech developments. Empty luxury homes in California, New York and Pennsylvania have also been torched by people who oppose development. SUV dealerships in Los Angeles and Santa Cruz have been vandalized (22 ).

The animal rights group PETA gave a support committee for fire bomber Rodney Coronado, they also gave Josh Harper who assaulted a police officer, $5,000.00, Both are associated with the group Animal Liberation Front, a sister organization of ELF (23 ).

The group Earth Liberation Front (ELF) has claimed responsibility for attacks on , leather stores, medical research labs and fur industry facilities. Director of the FBI Louis J. Freeh Told congress in Feb 1999 his agency is pursing single "issue terrorist" involved "in the violent animal rights . . .and environmental protection movements." (24 ).

Landscaper Ric Valois likes the military, guns and the environment also founded the Environmental Rangers. Environmental Rangers Part Earth First and part Militia of Montana, the Rangers'. He said about the group "We are the special forces of the environmental movement,". Though he can't be tied to violence followers have killed dozens cattle in New Mexico, Colorado with weapons fire. Two home made pipe bombs and 16 sticks of plastic explosives where found in Gila National Forest in New Mexico Forest Service Special Agent Allen Funkhouser said some landowners in Oregon and New Mexico found their gates rigged with explosives (25 ).
