Tuskegee Syphilis Study started in 1932 by the United States Public Health Service, its location was Macon County, Ala. The study involved 600 black men 399 with syphilis and 201 did not. They were lied to and told they were being treated for "bad blood.". In exchange for their partaking in the experiment they were given the men received free medical exams, meals and burial insurance. Even after penicillin came out as a cure for syphilis, they were not cured. By the time the study was exposed 23 men had died and 100 others died from complications related to syphilis, forty wives contracted the disease from the inflected and 19 children contracted the disease from birth (8 ).
