Why? An explanation
The US Department of Defense paid Iraqi press to cast the US invasion in a positive light (12 ). Unbiased Iraq coverage?
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed legal action to stop the censoring of details of American torture of alleged terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay. In a statement the ACLU said "Currently, the government cuts off the audio feed whenever a detainee testifies about CIA abuse so that observers cannot hear descriptions of brutal interrogations," (13).
Peace Activist Cindy Sheehan wore a tee shirt that said "2245 Dead. How many more?" police charged her with misdemeanor unlawful disruptive conduct in the Capitol(14).
In Charleston, W. Va., couple were arrested for wearing anti Bush tee shirts at a Bush rally the police said they were acting on orders from federal officials. The charges were later dropped (15 ).
Members of the undercover members Maryland State Patrol spied on war protestors and opponents to the death penalty in 2005 and 2006. some of the intelligence gathered made its way to federal agencies (16 ).
"Doing Gods Will?"
In the early 1900's the eugenics movement was tied to the belief that a person owe their health, and welfare to the whole. This was one of the driving forces behind Nazi'ism. The Nazis lost power, they and their damnable hell born camps are closed. But the belief you owe most everything to the benefit of the whole still remains. It remains in portions of both liberal and conservative ideologies.
Often there is a perceived threat to public health, be it smoking, drinking, over eating or viewing wardrobe malfunctions. It's yelled from the highest mountain tops, that this is a threat to the public health, it causes higher cost in insurance and what not. Then the questionable activity is curtail as best it can. the catch is insurance and other cost never seem to go down nor are they encouraged to go down.
